Live updates: Winter storm’s snow and ice expanding, with devastating impacts to come


New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani speaks during a press briefing at the New York City Management center on Friday. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for the city and surrounding areas calling for heavy snow with total accumulations between 10 and 14 inches.

At least 16 states have declared a state of emergency to assist release and mobilize assets to reply to and put together for the storm as of early Saturday.

The record consists of Delaware, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, New York, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey and Kansas.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro signed a statewide catastrophe emergency proclamation to activate response efforts.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott additionally introduced a disaster declaration overlaying 134 counties to equally mobilize assets.

Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser also declared a state of emergency for the nation’s capital on Friday.
