At least a dozen Democratic lawmakers are opting to skip President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address tonight and are as an alternative collaborating in a “People’s State of the Union” at the National Mall.
The occasion is “a rally counterprogramming President Trump’s night full of lies and misplaced priorities for the American people,” in accordance to a news release from liberal group MoveOn Civic Action, which is internet hosting the gathering alongside progressive media firm MeidasTouch and different companions.
Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen, who’s in the “People’s State of the Union” lineup, introduced final week on his social media accounts that he won’t be attending the State of Union address.
“Trump is marching America towards fascism, and I refuse to normalize his shredding of our Constitution & democracy,” he wrote. “This cannot be business as usual.”
