Live updates: Tensions flare in Minneapolis in aftermath of fatal ICE shooting

Demonstrators protest outside the White House in Washington on Saturday.

Protesters gathered in Washington, DC, to sentence the killing of Renee Good in Minneapolis earlier this week by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent.

With indicators together with, “The Trump Fascist Regime MUST GO NOW!!” And “WAKE UP AMERICA,” protesters marched in entrance of the White House because it rained steadily.

“I’m deeply concerned about the 10th Amendment being downtroddened by this administration and about the lives of common American citizens being endangered by a government that, in my opinion, has gone beyond its law enforcement responsibilities,” stated Jack McCarty, a protester who stated he’s initially from Minnesota.

The tenth Amendment of the Constitution protects states’ rights, and McCarty is asking for state oversight of ICE exercise.

When requested by NCS what he believes must occur to make sure a loss of life like Good’s by no means occurs once more, McCarty stated, “I think independent accountability and oversight over ICE activities at the state level, in addition to empowering state lawmakers and investigators to be able to hold ICE agents accountable for actions within their state is a step forward to ensuring this tragedy never happens again.”

Another protester, Claudia Schur, joined the march to share her grievances in opposition to a number of Trump administration actions.

“It’s a combination of everything that’s been happening since Trump took office but particularly the invasion of Venezuela and then the murder by an ICE agent in Minneapolis is just, it’s too much,” Schur advised NCS.

“There’s no rules anymore, no shame, no integrity,” Schur added whereas holding an indication that stated, “ICE Out.” “It’s just a country I can’t even, I can’t, I don’t recognize.”

Meanwhile, Julia Doherty — who marched alongside Schur — shared considerations concerning the polarization of the nation.

“There’s no sense of community. We’re just so polarized, it’s horrifying,” Doherty stated. “And we need to stand up and do whatever we can to, to effect change. Trump is out of control.”
