Teachers with Education Minnesota held a information convention Friday morning, calling for ICE to steer clear of their colleges as a result of they “must be places of safety, learning and belonging.”
“Our schools are in neighborhoods, so we know they’re (ICE) there. The teachers know they’re there, and they are circling,” Wendy Marczak, president of the Bloomington Federation of Teachers, stated about ICE exercise in the state. “Our teachers are literally following the buses home because they don’t know, on the other end, if there’s going to be a parent or not.”
“An elementary school was forced to lock down, grown men used pepper spray on terrified high school students on school property, and that was just on Wednesday,” Catina Taylor, president of the ESP chapter of the Minneapolis Federation of Educators, stated referencing a heated confrontation involving Border Patrol agents and group members that erupted exterior a Minneapolis public faculty on Wednesday.
“This is the opposite of protecting our kids. This is the opposite of keeping the peace. Nothing about this is okay, nothing,” Taylor stated. “The force that we witnessed, it was sad. We need ICE out of Minneapolis and out of Minnesota ASAP.”
