The photo, released by Iran's semi-official Mehr news agency on June 10, 2026, shows the purported remnants of a munition that struck a water reservoir in Southern Iran. Weapons experts who spoke to CNN identified them as being from a GBU-39 series precision-guided munition.

Iran’s semi-official information company posted images of a ingesting water reservoir that officers mentioned was destroyed in a missile strike in addition to photos of munition fragments that consultants instructed NCS seemed to be from a US-made bomb.

NCS couldn’t independently confirm that the munitions proven in the picture launched by the Mehr information company had been discovered on the website. The images of the broken water tank had been first geolocated to southern Iran by an impartial researcher who posts underneath the title acceladealer on X and confirmed by NCS.

The photograph, launched by Mehr alongside photos of the destroyed water tank in Bamani, Iran, exhibits elements of a GBU-39 collection bomb, a precision-guided munition produced in the US, in line with munitions consultants Trevor Ball, a former US Army senior explosive ordnance disposal workforce member, and N.R. Jenzen-Jones, the director of Armament Research Services.

Israel and a few Gulf states even have the bomb in their arsenals. Ball mentioned the harm to the water tank was broadly in line with that from a GBU-39.

The US launched strikes in opposition to Iran on Tuesday in response to Iran downing a US helicopter; it’s unclear if the water tank was hit in these assaults.

US Central Command spokesperson Capt. Timothy Hawkins mentioned the command was conscious of stories and searching into the state of affairs.

Water amenities are protected underneath the Geneva Convention. In March, President Donald Trump floated the concept of the US attacking Iran’s water desalinization crops. The risk raised widespread alarm amongst America’s Gulf allies.
