Flooding rain: Melissa will proceed to dump torrential rain over the northern Caribbean. The highest totals will occur in Jamaica, which may see toes of rain over the following few days. Much of southern Haiti may report as much as a foot of rainfall whereas some spots in the far southwest may get greater than 16 inches. Much of southern Cuba may additionally decide up 16 to twenty inches of rain this week.
Destructive wind: Melissa is a violent hurricane packing worst-case-scenario winds. Sustained winds close to its middle are anticipated to be round 160 mph at landfall over Jamaica Tuesday, with larger gusts. The winds racing up Jamaica’s mountains can be considerably stronger — gusts may attain larger than 200 mph.
Life-threatening storm surge: Jamaica may also bear the brunt of Melissa’s worst storm surge. Melissa’s highly effective winds may push water as much as 13 toes above floor stage, particularly late Monday into Tuesday.
