Another fleet of Gaza-bound aid ships carrying journalists, activists and medical professionals has been intercepted by Israeli authorities, the organizers stated on social media, days after Israel detained dozens of activists on the Global Sumud Flotilla.
Ships from the Conscience Boat and Thousand Madleens to Gaza convoy, a part of a corporation known as the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, had been intercepted Wednesday morning native time whereas approaching Gaza, the organizers stated in a social media put up.
The FFC stated the Israeli navy had intercepted all 9 of the convoy’s ships as of simply after 6 a.m. native time, roughly 120 nautical miles from Gaza.
“The Israeli military has no legal jurisdiction over international waters. Our flotilla poses no harm,” the group stated in an Instagram put up.
Eight of the passengers are US residents, in response to the FFC.
A stay video stream from the “Gaza Sunbird,” one of many ships the FFC stated was intercepted, appeared to point out Israeli safety forces boarding the vessel as its crew sat in the rear, and putting the digicam offering the stay stream. Moments later, the stream went offline.
Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs known as the flotilla’s efforts “another futile attempt to breach the legal naval blockade,” an effort it stated “ended in nothing.” The “vessels and the passengers are transferred to an Israeli port,” the MFA stated, including that they’d be “deported promptly.”
Last week, the Israeli navy intercepted dozens of boats crusing with the Global Sumud Flotilla, a separate Gaza-bound convoy. The members, which included Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, had been detained by Israel and deported.
