National Science and Technology Advisory Council appoints 20 first-term civilian members… to advise the president and enhance R&D

The Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technology introduced on the twenty seventh that it appointed 20 personal sector members for the primary time period underneath the Lee Jae-myung administration the day prior to this.

The council serves as the best decision-making physique in science and know-how, chaired by the president. It oversees deliberation on mid- to long-term science and know-how insurance policies and analysis and improvement (R&D) funds allocation.

The 10 advisory members appointed embody Kim Bok-cheol, former chairman of the National Research Council of Science and Technology (NST); Park Sung-dong, CEO of AreaPark; Shin Min-su, professor of enterprise administration at Hanyang University; Yoon Eui-jun, president of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea; Yoon Jin-hee, professor of physics at Inha University; Lee Seung-ryul, analysis fellow at Seoul National University of Science and Technology; Lee Seung-bok, professor at Seoul National University’s Graduate School of Dentistry; Lee Jun-young, professor of chemical engineering at Sungkyunkwan University; Jang Byung-tak, professor at Seoul National University’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering; and Ho Won-kyung, professor emeritus at Seoul National University College of Medicine.

The 10 deliberation committee members appointed embody Koo Bon-kyung, director of the Genome Editing Research Center on the Institute for Basic Science (IBS); Kim Sung-pyo, professor of environmental techniques engineering at Korea University; Kim Hee-jung, group chief at Samsung Heavy Industries; Bu Kyung-ho, professor at Korea University of Science and Technology’s School of Energy Engineering; Sung Eun-ha, head of patent affairs at CHA Hospital; Shin Jin-woo, ICT endowed chair professor at KAIST; Ji Seung-wook, director of the AI Bio-Pharma Research Institute at Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology; Choi Eun-young, professor of biomedical sciences at Seoul National University; Han Jae-heung, professor of aerospace engineering at KAIST; and Hong Sung-joo, senior analysis fellow on the Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI). All members will serve one-year phrases.

The council said, “Following Vice Chairman Lee Kyung-soo, whose term began on December 28 last year, the composition of the first advisory council is now complete. The council will begin full-scale activities and conduct in-depth policy consultation and deliberation on the government’s key science and technology agenda.”
