In 2020, Kim joined with Monroe and Ken Brown, his long-time collaborators, to launch the Duke Quantum Center, which convenes college from throughout the college to place quantum computing and quantum data to work on a wide range of scientific issues and real-world functions. Over twenty years, members of DQC have collectively attracted over $250 million in funding from authorities, tutorial and business companions. Kim is the heart’s affiliate director.

The recipient of quite a few awards for his analysis, Kim is a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, the American Physics Society and Optica (previously Optical Society of America). He stepped down as IonQ’s Chief Technology Officer in March 2024.

Duke launched DST in 2019 to raise excellence in the sciences via college retention and recruitment. The fundraising effort has helped recruit or retain greater than 40 high students with a selected concentrate on supplies science, computing, and resilience of the physique and mind.
