People throughout the U.S. are celebrating Juneteenth. June nineteenth marks the day enslaved African Americans in Texas discovered they have been free, greater than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. While it is a celebration, it is also a time to consider what must be performed to guard the progress made since then. NCS’s Lynda Kinkade studies.
