On Location peels again the curtain on some of your favourite movies, tv reveals, and extra.

“You? Alone in Europe? It’d be like a gazelle in the Serengeti. Except, you wouldn’t be a gazelle; you’d be a cocker spaniel!” This is the vote of no-confidence that Hollywood supervisor Ron (Adam Sandler) offers his A-list actor consumer Jay Kelly (George Clooney). Having spent a long time within the limelight, mollycoddled Jay by no means has to fend for himself; he is by no means needed to slum it and by no means finds himself alone.

Yet, when Jay’s daughter Daisy units off backpacking round Europe, simply as he’s re-evaluating his profession—a flashy one which all the time took precedence over parenthood—he decides to comply with her. Knowing Jay will deal with solo journey hopelessly, Ron joins him, together with a rotating entourage (naturally) that features ruthless publicist (Laura Dern), flaky make-up artist (Emily Mortimer), an inscrutable safety element, and a stylist lugging Lous Vuitton.

Jay’s grand tour ticks off California, Paris, the Alps, Italian Riviera, and Tuscany en route, so it’s an inspirational look ahead to vacationers. Below, manufacturing designer Mark Tildesley pinpoints how and why manufacturing selected some of our favourite areas within the film.

Malibu, California

From the get-go, it’s clear that is a movie about gloss and fantasy, the place Jay’s life—each on and off digicam—is a assortment of flawless “scenes.” His home is no exception: a spectacular Modernist house with a gorgeous swimming pool and views. “We were looking for texture and color and things that made the house feel like it was originally a family home,” Tildesley says. “It still had to be a superstar’s house, but there was an interesting contradiction, trying to find a level where it felt homey but also slightly cold, like there was a family there at one time, and now it’s empty.” Tildesley scoured Los Angeles and located the mid-century Malibu home and pool you see on display. Ironically, it as soon as belonged to Jack Nicholson.
