New York – October 7, 2025: For the third consecutive 12 months, Japan has been named the #1 country in the world by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler within the 2025 version of the journal’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards. Tokyo (#1) and Kyoto (#2) have been voted the highest two finest “Large Cities” in the world, with Tokyo main the record for the second 12 months in a row.
“We are honored to receive this recognition from Condé Nast Traveler’s readers, which reflects the lasting popularity of travel to Japan,” says Susumu Matsumoto, Executive Director of the Japan National Tourism Organization’s (JNTO) New York workplace. “We have welcomed a record number of visitors from the United States every month from January through August 2025, with a total of number of 2.1 million American visitors so far this year. We will continue to inspire both first time visitors and repeat travelers to explore diverse attractions throughout Japan.”
