Advances in science and expertise are sometimes considered merely as devices of fabric progress. In reality, science and expertise ought to be a blessing that brings advantages to humanity and maintains concord on earth.
This was emphasised by Professor M Faiz Syuaib, Professor on the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FTT) IPB University, throughout a daybreak research session at Al Hurriyyah Mosque, Dramaga Campus.
The research session carried the theme “Science and Technology as a Blessing to Build Benefits for Humankind and Maintain Harmony on Earth,” which was a part of the 1447 H Ramadan Celebration.
“Allah has honored humans with various privileges. One of the greatest forms of this honor is the gift of reason, which enables humans to think, innovate, and distinguish between right and wrong,” he mentioned in entrance of the coed congregation.
Three Missions
Prof Faiz defined that due to this cause and mental capability, people have a nice ethical duty to make use of their benefits for good. According to him, there are three primary missions for people on earth which are interconnected.
The first mission is as servants who worship (abd-Allah). He emphasised that the idea of worship shouldn’t be lowered to mere spiritual rituals.
“Worship includes complete loyalty and devotion in all aspects of life. This means that every productive activity, such as studying, working, innovating, and creating, can be considered worship if done according to His will,” he defined.
The second mission, he continued, is humanity’s function as stewards or managers on earth (khalifah). In this context, people are required to not trigger destruction and to handle pure sources correctly and sustainably utilizing science and expertise.
Meanwhile, the third mission is to be builders of civilization and nurturers of the earth. Prof Faiz reminded that growth shouldn’t be exploitative and materialistic.
“Humans have the duty to build a civilization based on faith, knowledge, and morals. A good and resilient civilization will only arise from a balance between spiritual values of religion and scientific progress,” he concluded.
Through an understanding of those three missions, college students as members of the tutorial neighborhood are anticipated not solely to excel cognitively but in addition to have the ability to make the most of their information as options to varied environmental and social crises in society.
