A brand new science and expertise centre in Scunthorpe is ready to open later this month, North Lincolnshire Council has introduced.

Discover@20-21 on the Visual Arts Centre, in Church Square, has been designed to encourage the following technology of artists, inventors, scientists and engineers, the authority stated.

Council chief Rob Waltham stated it was a hands-on area the place “children can see how imagination and innovation can shape the world around them”.

The centre, in the previous St John’s Church, is due to open to the general public on 30 October, and will likely be open from Tuesdays to Saturdays, between 10:00 and 16:00.

The council introduced plans for Discover@20-21 in March 2023.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the £2.5m mission, which included restoration work to St John’s church, was funded by the federal government’s Towns Fund.

Councillor John Davison stated: “This is another fantastic addition to Scunthorpe town centre – something that families can enjoy together and that makes learning feel like an adventure.”
