Jakarta (ANTARA) – The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has expressed its readiness to be part of the Biomedical Genome Science Initiative (BGSI) research ecosystem, initiated by the Health Ministry, to enhance the well being of the Indonesian individuals.

BRIN Head Arif Satria emphasised throughout a seminar in Jakarta on Thursday that the company has ample research amenities on the Soekarno Science and Technology Zone (KST) in Cibinong, Bogor District, West Java, to assist genomics research actions.

“BRIN aims to further strengthen synergy within the BGSI ecosystem. We seek guidance from the Health Minister on additional steps we should take, as we are keen to gain insight and direction on the future course of research in the health sector,” Satria stated.

He acknowledged that BRIN is provided with amenities together with 5 genome sequencing machines, a high-performance laptop (HPC), a vaccine good manufacturing observe (GMP) laboratory, a biosafety stage 3 (BSL-3) laboratory, and a cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) laboratory, which is claimed to be among the many most superior in Southeast Asia.

“I think we are an open platform, open to anyone. This includes professors, students, researchers, and researchers from the Health Ministry who can participate in our research,” he emphasised.

To assist research initiatives, Satria defined, BRIN can also be creating the Indonesia Nucleotide Archive (INNA) as a repository for nucleotide sequences and associated metadata that adhere to international requirements and are built-in with BRIN’s storage infrastructure.

He additional emphasised that BRIN’s position within the venture consists of creating genomic surveillance for rising and re-emerging infectious diseases, equivalent to influenza, Nipah virus, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), tuberculosis, and others.

In addition, Satria stated BRIN may contribute to biomarker research geared toward predicting future diseases primarily based on the genetic traits of the Indonesian inhabitants.

“If we can predict future diseases, that would be very beneficial. And of course, we must adhere to the One Health approach, because the source of future diseases will depend heavily on zoonoses—diseases originating from animals,” Satria stated.

On the identical event, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto acknowledged that the federal government would set up a research consortium to strengthen BGSI in addressing diseases which are thought of troublesome to deal with, utilizing extra exact approaches.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin emphasised the significance of sustaining public well being as a part of efforts to obtain Indonesia Emas 2045, noting that BGSI know-how gives personalised testing outcomes and follow-up tailor-made to every particular person.
