We’ve recognized for some time now that Season 4 of Mike White’s Emmy-winning sequence, which sees shiny hotel friends and staff entangled in scandal, drama and thriller, might be heading to the sunshiny Côte d’Azur. Now, we have discovered just a little extra about the filming places of the subsequent season – and the setting provides us a relatively large plot clue too.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, on paper, the sequence seems to stay the similar as the earlier (wildly profitable) three seasons, with HBO showrunners stating that Season 4 will “follow a new group of White Lotus hotel guests and employees over the span of a week, taking place during the Cannes Film Festival”. Helena Bonham Carter, Steve Coogan, Sandra Bernhard, Vincent Cassel and Max Greenfield are amongst the glittery ensemble solid.
Where will The White Lotus Season 4 be filmed?
Reports that HBO had not renewed its partnership with Four Seasons, whose motels in Hawaii, Sicily and Thailand stood in for the respective White Lotus properties in Seasons 1-3 have now been confirmed, with the manufacturing staff wanting to not one however two properties for the French Riviera setting of Season 4. The plot will unfurl throughout two White Lotus properties: the ‘White Lotus du Cap’ (filmed at Airelles Château de la Messardière) and ‘White Lotus Cannes’ (filmed at Hôtel Martinez).
We first heard rumours that Airelles Le Château de la Messardière can be used as a backdrop in January. “I can confidently say that this hotel,” wrote long-time Côte d’Azur resident Lanie Goodman, “will make the perfect setting for a season spent on the French Riviera – set high on a hilltop, with the temptations of Saint-Tropez and Pampelonne’s strip of all-day-party beach clubs below.”
