When her mom was misdiagnosed, Shay Taylor made it her mission to assist others advocate for themselves, noting that Black girls are too usually misdiagnosed. After a decade working as a janitor at Yale New Haven Hospital, she is now one step nearer to her dream, returning as a health care provider in residence. She encourages others to advocate for themselves within the physician’s workplace, saying, “The lesson here is always speak up.”
