Alan Sheehan says he didn’t have to elucidate to Goncalo Franco why he was left out towards Millwall final weekend – as a result of the midfielder told him first.

Sheehan was planning to interrupt the information to Franco on the eve of the Millwall recreation, just for the participant to take the lead in “a really honest conversation”.

“I was going to tell him but then he told me instead,” Swansea’s head coach mentioned.

“That’s the kind of culture that you want to be a part of. He knows the competition. He was incredibly complimentary about his team-mates and how they’re playing.

“That’s how we would like it – everyone supporting one another as a result of everyone’s not going to start out each week.”

Franco was an unused substitute against Millwall, when summer signings Ethan Galbraith (pictured below) – one of Swansea’s star performers this season – Marko Stamenic and Malick Yalcouye started in Swansea’s midfield.

“Sometimes you want slightly reset, typically if you’re within the warmth of the motion you may’t truly see what is going on on,” Sheehan added.

“We spoke about it and he is aware of precisely the place he’s at. He’s an sincere participant. He is aware of what he does effectively, how essential he is to the workforce.

“Sometimes it can be ‘oh you’re on the bench’. Yeah, but it’s the team that finishes – we’re seeing how important that is, in the Championship and in other leagues.

“You want large influence off the bench and typically that may decide the scoreline.”

Having returned efficiently at Blackburn, Franco appears to be like prone to preserve his place when Swansea tackle Leicester City on Saturday (15:00 BST).
