Federal authorities have seized over a dozen websites they are saying were used by suspected Chinese agents to recruit former and present American officials with safety clearances.
According to the FBI’s affidavit for the seizures, a number of unnamed individuals used the websites as a entrance for faux “consulting companies to recruit individuals in the United States to obtain sensitive and possibly classified information in exchange for monetary payments.”
The websites allegedly marketed for such positions as “International Affairs Analysts (Remote),” Defense Analyst, “Jobs for Ex-Military Personnel” in addition to generic “consulting” positions.
The affidavit lists seven unnamed individuals who were recruited by the websites and says the recruiters requested for papers on numerous topics together with China and US relations, Iran and the Israel-Palestine conflict — all whereas urgent for insider or unique data.
The FBI believes the individuals working the alleged scheme, who were all positioned abroad, were appearing “wittingly or unwittingly” on behalf of the Chinese authorities. The websites were paid for by cryptocurrency and international banks. It’s unclear if any categorized materials was ever shared by the alleged plot.

The FBI says the conspirators used establish theft, AI-generated pictures and movies and “relatively large payments for research reports” of their try to acquire entry to delicate intel.
