Roughly 90 minutes later, an avalanche in close by Gastein Valley, south of the town of Salzburg, swept away seven folks. Four had been killed, two severely injured and one escaped unhurt.
In the city of Pusterwald in central Austria, three Czech skiers had been killed in an avalanche shortly earlier than 4:30 p.m., police stated. Four of their companions had been evacuated to security.
“This tragedy painfully demonstrates how serious the current avalanche situation is,” stated Gerhard Kremser, district head of the Pongau mountain rescue service, noting the “clear and repeated warnings” about avalanche danger.
