Gabriel Dulgnan’s a number of Grade 3 winner Echo Sound will try to rebound from her disappointing effort because the overwhelmed favourite in final month’s Test Stakes (G1) when she faces seven fellow 3-year-old filles entered in Saturday’s fiftieth operating of the $300,000 Dogwood Stakes offered by Resolute Racing (G3) at Churchill Downs.
Run at seven furlongs, the Dogwood Stakes will share the highlight with the $300,000 Bourbon Flight (Race 10); $300,000 Harrods Creek (Race 7); and $175,000 Seneca Overnight Stakes (L) (Race 8). Trained by Rusty Arnold, Echo Sound scored her first graded stakes victory within the May 16 Miss Preakness (G3) then, one month later, bested three rivals within the Victory Ride (G3). Prior to Saturday’s Dogwood, the Echo Town filly was the overwhelmed 3-2 favourite within the Test Aug. 2 at Saratoga, ending sixth to stablemate Kilwin. Florent Geroux has the mount within the Dogwood from the rail.
Another gifted filly entered within the race is Godolphin’s homebred Ragtime. Trained by Bill Mott, the evenly raced daughter of Union Rags was victorious within the first two begins of her profession, breaking her maiden by 3¾ lengths after which profitable a first-level allowance by 4¼ lengths at Saratoga. Following her allowance rating, Ragtime almost gained the Test, ending a neck behind Kilwin. Junior Alvarado can have the decision within the Dogwood out of publish 4.
