The Inter-University Council for East Africa has launched a regional community to strengthen synthetic intelligence capability throughout universities in East Africa, in collaboration with the East African Science and Technology Commission and German growth company GIZ.

The Regional Network on Artificial Intelligence in Education and Research was unveiled March 30 throughout the fourth East African Community Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Conference at the Kigali Convention Centre. The program is being carried out underneath the EAC AI Alliance venture.

As a part of the launch, organizers issued a name for nodes, inviting universities and analysis establishments throughout the area to be part of the community. The initiative goals to foster collaboration, advance AI analysis and combine AI into increased training programs inside EAC member states.

The community is predicted to function a platform for information sharing, joint analysis and capability constructing, positioning universities to play a extra lively position in the growth and utility of AI applied sciences throughout the area.

Speaking at the launch have been EASTECO Executive Secretary Sylvance Okoth, IUCEA Acting Executive Secretary Idris A. Rai and David Roos, head of program for GIZ Tanzania and the East African Community, all of whom emphasised the significance of coordinated regional efforts in advancing AI-driven innovation.
