Disney Cruise Offers Adults-Only Getaway from Family Responsibilities

A friend convinced me to take a break from parenting by joining her on an adults-only trip, specifically a Disney cruise without our kids in tow. She had previously taken such a trip with her grandparents and raved about it.
I must admit I was initially hesitant about the idea of being on a massive ship with thousands of people. However, my friend's enthusiasm eventually won me over, and we booked a Disney cruise for just the two of us.
We set off from Boston, flying to Orlando where we boarded the Disney Wish. From there, all we had to worry about was enjoying our time on board. This level of convenience and organization was exactly what my husband and I needed at that point in our lives.
Our family is known for taking elaborate vacations, often requiring extensive travel arrangements. We have seven kids between us, including three sets of twins, which can be overwhelming at times.
The Disney cruise offered a range of activities that catered specifically to adults, allowing us to unwind and have fun without the kids in tow. We took part in various trivia games with other passengers, which was an entertaining way to engage with fellow travelers.
One of the standout features of the cruise was its inclusive pricing model, where most amenities were already accounted for. This meant that we didn't have to worry about racking up additional costs throughout our trip.
Meals at themed restaurants formed part of the package, giving us the freedom to indulge in as many dishes as we pleased without any extra charges. Room service was also available 24/7, and non-alcoholic beverages were included in the overall cost.
The buffet-style meals at Marceline Market stood out for their variety and flexibility. We could easily mix healthy options with our favorite treats, such as fried hash browns for lunch or Mickey-shaped churro waffles that received high praise from the crew.
We visited the Keg & Compass pub frequently, particularly after discovering its exceptional vodka dirty martini on our first night aboard. Cocktail prices varied across different bars, but this particular drink was reasonably priced at $14.
The private island of Castaway Cay was a highlight of my Disney cruise experience in the Caribbean. As someone who gets seasick easily, I appreciated being able to step off the ship and onto solid ground. The island's tranquil atmosphere and picturesque beaches were a welcome respite from the gentle rocking motion of the boat.
I spent some time soaking up the sun on Castaway Cay's beautiful beach, which offered the perfect blend of warm water, soft sand, and vibrant colors. A frozen piña colada in hand made for an idyllic moment, allowing me to fully unwind and enjoy my surroundings. The island's adults-only section, Serenity Bay, was a peaceful oasis that provided a welcome escape from the lively atmosphere found elsewhere on the island.
The island also boasted a restaurant situated right on the beach, making it convenient to grab a bite to eat between dips in the ocean. This flexibility allowed me to indulge in some much-needed relaxation time, savoring the laid-back atmosphere and taking advantage of the island's amenities. The combination of beautiful scenery, delicious food, and leisurely activities made for an unforgettable experience.
One aspect that I found particularly appealing was the diversity of activities offered on Castaway Cay. While there were numerous options to choose from, I often found myself torn between participating in multiple events happening simultaneously. For instance, I would have loved to attend a bingo night while also taking part in trivia, who wouldn't want to enjoy a fun game of bingo?
On another day, I had the opportunity to engage in some creative activities, but unfortunately, the craft session for making friendship bracelets coincided with my pre-booked facial appointment. As a result, I missed out on this particular activity, and it didn't repeat during our stay.
Our goal on this Disney cruise was to unwind and spend quality time together, which led us to overlook many of the activities available onboard.
The ship offered a wide range of activities at any given time, catering to diverse tastes and preferences - something for everyone, indeed.
As a newcomer to Disney cruises, I made a rookie mistake when booking extra services like spa treatments.
By the time I tried to book massages and facials about a week before our trip, most available slots had already been taken.
I wanted to surprise my friend with a couple's massage to help us unwind, and also treat myself to a facial, but unfortunately, there were limited options left.
The Disney cruise offered a range of themed events, including pirate night and a Halloween party, which I was keen to prepare for.
To be honest, I had no idea what to expect in terms of dress code on a cruise, so I overpacked by a significant margin.
This left me with very little space for souvenirs, which I still managed to purchase, but I ended up carrying an extra tote bag back home as a result.
The various shops onboard offered distinct merchandise, reflecting their individual themes and styles.
I picked up a Mickey-cruise-themed men's shirt that received numerous compliments during my wear, while also buying pens and small keychain stuffies for my kids featuring their favorite characters.
The excitement of singing along to "Frozen on board was shared by my friend and me, much to the amusement of other adult guests.
Meeting fellow passengers who were seasoned cruisers added to the experience. A couple celebrating their 41st Disney cruise together shared their enthusiasm with me, finding my first-timer's energy endearing.
Their advice to become a cruise person" was well-received and I have since booked another Disney cruise for my family to enjoy.
