The chief of the National Energy Technology Laboratory for the previous two years retired this week, marking a change at one of the Department of Energy’s 17 labs.

Marianne Walck, who took over as NETL’s director in February 2024, introduced her retirement in a LinkedIn submit. Her final day was Wednesday.

Before NETL, Walck was the deputy director of the Idaho National Laboratory for science and technology and chief analysis officer for about 5 years, in accordance with her LinkedIn profile. NETL has analysis websites in Oregon, West Virginia and Pennsylvania, and its work has concerned fossil vitality, geothermal vitality and demanding minerals.

“I have greatly enjoyed the opportunity to contribute to the nation’s energy and national security at three different national labs, Sandia, Idaho and NETL,” Walck said in her LinkedIn post. “I have been proud to lead collaborative research, particularly in earth science, across the national lab system and to be an advocate for women in [science, technology, engineering and mathematics].”
