The Department of Computer Science at Illinois Tech’s College of Computing welcomes 5 new members to its school this semester who will assist present the rigorous schooling wanted to information a brand new technology of tech leaders, in addition to propel the division’s analysis endeavors.
Nathaniel Hudson, Yanxue Jia, Yue Dai, and Oliver Michel accepted positions as assistant professors of pc science, whereas Yun Dong will be part of as an assistant educating professor of pc science and knowledge expertise and administration.
“I am very excited to welcome the new faculty to the computer science department,” says Mustafa Bilgic, chair of the Department of Computer Science. “They are excellent researchers and educators, spanning a range of areas including systems, AI, cybersecurity, and HCI.”
Hudson joins the division after serving as a postdoctoral scholar on the University of Chicago’s Globus Labs. His analysis contains the design of techniques for serving AI on edge computing infrastructure for good metropolis purposes. It facilities round challenges associated to useful resource limitations obtainable on the edge for supporting EI. Trade-offs between latency, accuracy, and useful resource utilization are frequent themes within the work.
Jia involves the division after conducting post-doctoral analysis at Purdue University. She earned a Ph.D. in pc science from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Her analysis primarily focuses on utilized cryptography, blockchain, safe computation, and provable safety. The work is devoted to designing environment friendly and safe cryptographic protocols that improve collaboration whereas guaranteeing privateness safety.
Dai earned a Ph.D. in pc science from the University of Pittsburgh, and a M.S. in telecommunications from the University of Maryland. She has performed analysis in machine studying techniques and accelerators, with a concentrate on environment friendly techniques and sturdy algorithms for deep graph studying. Specifically, she works on accelerating Graph Neural Network-based deep graph studying fashions throughout various platforms and exploring the robustness of these purposes in opposition to adversarial assaults.
Michel was beforehand an affiliate analysis scholar at Princeton University in addition to a postdoctoral researcher on the University of Vienna. He earned a Ph.D. in pc science from the University of Colorado, Boulder. His analysis pursuits embody networking and community measurement, with a concentrate on real-time multimedia purposes, programmable information planes, and wi-fi networks.
Dong is a Ph.D. graduate in human-computer interplay from Iowa State University and joins the division after working as an assistant professor at Milwaukee School of Engineering. Her analysis pursuits are centered on design pondering and UX design throughout various domains.
“These excellent new faculty will further strengthen our research and educational capabilities in our department,” Bilgic says. “I am very much looking forward to supporting and collaborating with them.”
