And the Justice Department is investigating whether or not Powell perjured himself whereas speaking about the price of the renovation whereas testifying earlier than the Senate Banking Committee in June 2025.

“You’re not supposed to say it, you’re not supposed to say what’s actually happening,” Kernen stated.

“Why not?” Tillis replied.

“Because… normally, [Tillis is] not running for reelection so the truth will set you free. But you are judging the results of the investigation, you’re pre-judging exactly what’s gonna happen. That’s your opinion,” Kernen stated.

Tillis stated he feels free to voice his opinion as a result of he was an “eyewitness to what they’re charging.” He then stated he’s prepared to say he was improper if the case in opposition to Powell seems to be stronger than he believes.

“All I’m saying is let’s see the subpoena, lets see the case and let it run through,” he continued. “If they have a compelling case, I’ll stand corrected.”

That caught co-host Andrew Ross Sorkin’s consideration, who jumped in and stated “you said it’s unusual for a Republican to tell the truth, is that what you’re saying?”
