Kanapu will host its fourth nationwide wnanga, Hui Hihiri each in-person and on-line in mid-March below the theme: Whakahikonga Uira: Igniting our Leadership.
A novel programme devoted to rising Māori expertise and management in analysis, science, innovation and know-how is launching a number of occasions and initiatives in early 2026.

Based on the University of Waikato, Kanapu is designed and led by New Zealand’s Māori Centre of Research Excellence, Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga, below a six-year funding settlement with the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment.
The intention is to construct and develop the aptitude and capability of Māori researchers in public sector organisations in addition to in hapori (communities).
Pouhere (Executive Director), Dr Poia Rewi (Ngāti Manawa, Tūhoe, Te Arawa, Ngāti Whare, Tūwharetoa), says the programme is well-positioned to increase its imaginative and prescient past functionality growth to the transformative potential of Māori financial self-determination.
“The science and technology sector has much to gain from Māori people, knowledge and experience, innovation, practices and values,” Dr Rewi explains.

Kanapu Support is a collection of one-hour on-line talks by Māori specialists scheduled to start out in February whereas Kanapu Exchange will embody sensible placements, mentorships and convention participation.
“Kanapu will develop and ship a collection of initiatives to attach, appeal to, nurture and speed up Māori expertise and management in analysis, science, innovation and know-how.
“Existing and new technologies will also be leveraged to develop tools and strategies that make it easier for Māori to navigate and participate in the sector, generating and deriving greater benefit and impact.”
