The Bangladesh sports adviser Asif Nazrul has claimed that communication from an ICC security workforce spells out the difficulties for Bangladesh to play their 2026 T20 World Cup matches in India.
The ICC has been contacted for remark and the claims of this communication and its evaluation haven’t been independently verified but.
“We have sent two letters (to the ICC), after which the ICC security team have sent a letter,” Nazrul, successfully the nation’s sports head, mentioned on Monday. “They have said that if three things happen, the security threat of the Bangladesh team (in India) will increase. One, if Mustafiz [Mustafizur Rahman] is included in the Bangladesh team. Two, if the supporters of the Bangladesh team roam around in the national jersey of Bangladesh, which is our national jersey. Three, the security threat of the Bangladesh team will increase as the (Bangladesh) elections approach.
“So this assertion of the ICC security workforce has confirmed past a doubt that there is no such thing as a scenario for the Bangladesh cricket workforce to play the T20 World Cup in India. If the ICC expects us to make a cricket workforce with out our greatest bowler, our supporters will be unable to put on the Bangladesh jersey, and we are going to postpone the Bangladesh elections to play cricket, then there might be no more unusual, unrealistic and unreasonable expectation than this.”
Bangladesh are currently scheduled to play their first three group matches in Kolkata and the final one in Mumbai. The venues became a problem once the BCCI instructed Kolkata Knight Riders to remove Mustafizur from its IPL 2026 squad, amid deteriorating relations between the countries, without specifying a reason for the directive.
Following Mustafizur’s removal, the Bangladesh government banned the published of the IPL in the nation, and the BCB sent a letter to the ICC refusing to play its T20 World Cup matches in India.
The 2026 T20 World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, is scheduled to start on February 7.
