Tokyo (NCS) — An Australian snowboarder has died on a visit with buddies to Japan after her backpack grew to become caught in a ski lift leaving her suspended in midair, based on Japanese police and the lift operator.
Nagano Omachi Police stated the 22-year-old vacationer suffered from cardiac arrest after the accident on Friday on the Tsugaike Mountain Resort in Hakuba Valley, a preferred ski vacation spot in central Japan.
The lady was rushed to a hospital however later succumbed to her accidents, based on police and the ski lift operator.
In a press release, the Tsugaike Gondola Lift Co. stated the waist buckle of the vacationer’s backpack grew to become entangled in the lift chair, which prevented her from getting off the lift.
“Because the chest strap of the backpack was fastened, the backpack did not detach from the guest’s body, and the guest was dragged along with the backpack after disembarking from the lift,” the corporate’s CEO and director Kubo Tsuneo stated in a press release.
“A staff member immediately pressed the emergency stop button to halt lift operations. Emergency assistance was promptly provided, and the guest was then transported to a hospital by ambulance,” the assertion stated.
The firm expressed its “deepest condolences to the bereaved family” and vowed to strengthen security measures.
Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed that an Australian citizen had died in Japan, and stated it was offering consular assist to their household.
“We send our deepest condolences to the family at this difficult time,” a division spokesperson stated in a press release.
Japan is taken into account one in all Asia’s high snow sports activities locations as a result of its powder snow, which attracts numerous international vacationers every winter.
