Small but Mighty: Young Massive Star Clusters in Nearby Starburst Galaxies

Event Details: In excessive starbursting methods, nearly all of the star formation is concentrated in compact, younger large star clusters (YMCs). Feedback from these YMCs units the cluster’s star formation effectivity, shapes the encircling ISM, and powers multiphase large-scale outflows. I’ll current multiwavelength observational outcomes of YMCs and suggestions in two close by archetypal starburst galaxies: NGC253 and M82. In NGC253, fuel flows in alongside the bar fueling a circumnuclear starburst. The youngest YMCs are nonetheless closely embedded, solely seen with ALMA and lately JWST MIRI, but have already got extraordinarily robust suggestions. In M82, the tidal interplay and bar have produced an almost world starburst, launching a spectacular superwind. Bio: Dr. Rebecca Levy is a STScI Postdoctoral Fellow on the Space Telescope Science Institute. Her time is cut up between unbiased analysis and supporting the JWST Science Policies Group. Previously, she was a NSF Astronomy & Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellow on the University of Arizona. She obtained her PhD in astronomy from the University of Maryland in 2021. Her analysis pursuits embody utilizing multiwavelength observations of younger large star clusters, stellar suggestions, the ISM, and fuel kinematics in close by galaxies.
