In April, the French National Research Agency, which is a part of the Education Ministry, introduced an initiative to attract scientists from abroad referred to as “Choose France for Science.” The initiative goals to open up extra authorities funding for universities, faculties, and analysis organizations to entice overseas expertise.
The announcement got here after the Trump administration stated it deliberate to make main cuts to federal analysis funding on the National Institute of Health, in addition to different companies and universities.
While a few of these cuts have been made, others have been restored by courtroom order. The confusion, nevertheless, offered an alternative for France and others, as each US-born scientists and foreign-born scientists working within the US started to look elsewhere.
“As the international context creates the conditions for an unprecedented wave of mobility among researchers around the world, France aims to position itself as a host country for those wishing to continue their work in Europe, drawing on the country’s research ecosystem and infrastructure,” the French National Research Agency stated in a press release.
In a following LinkedIn publish, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that analysis is a “priority.”
“Researchers from around the world, choose France, choose Europe!” he wrote.
