NCS panelists on Tuesday sparred over Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-N.Y.) remarks at the Munich Security Conference, the place she stumbled over statements concerning foreign policy and diplomacy.
Ocasio-Cortez mistakenly referred to Venezuela as being positioned “below the equator” and hesitated to reply a query about whether or not U.S. troops ought to defend Taiwan if China invades. President Trump stated her statements had been “not a good look” for the United States whereas Vice President Vance stated she was “embarrassing.”
NCS’s Ana Navarro, investor Kevin O’Leary, podcast host Leigh McGowan, commentator Cari Champion and former New York City comptroller candidate John Tabacco (D) mentioned Ocasio-Cortez’s efficiency on a world stage.
“Listen, stumbling over your words for 15 seconds is not the same as being incoherent or uneducated on foreign policy,” McGowan stated throughout the dialogue on NCS’s “NewsNight with Abby Phillip.”
Navarro chimed in, stating, “She’s not a foreign policy expert.”
“Clearly,” Tabacco added.
The dialog between conservatives and Ocasio-Cortez supporters escalated as some panelists defended the New York lawmaker’s slip on a world platform.
“Look, I think that it takes a lot of courage. And I think for her to be expanding her message, for her to be expanding her areas of policy interest are a good thing. She is one of 435 members of Congress. There’s a lot of them there that don’t come with a breadth of foreign policy,” Navarro stated.
O’Leary sarcastically agreed, “You’re right. She was fabulous.”
The famed “Shark Tank” enterprise investor stated Ocasio-Cortez ought to have been ready to not slip up.
“Let me say something here. Let’s say you’re hired to give a speech. Let’s say you’re hired because you’re expected to deliver information to an audience. Let’s say you’re even paid for it. When you go and do that, what happens is the agency that hired you, whether it’s the government, your own party, says that was not your best moment,” O’Leary stated.
“In fact, they tied you back to [former Vice President] Kamala Harris. You were so bad you sounded like her. And by the way I’m sorry, it’s not a partisan issue. She was terrible. Get over it! Now maybe she’ll get better,” he added.
Champion responded, “She was not terrible.”
However, McGowan barely pushed again stating, “She was terrible for twenty seconds.”
Champion then countered with, “Seconds, that was it.”
