All applicants with a history of school violence were eliminated from the 2026 occasional recruitment of the nation’s 4 main science and expertise institutes, together with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

According to information submitted by Rep. Hwang Jung-ah of the Democratic Party of Korea (Yuseong-eul, Daejeon) of the National Assembly’s Science, Technology, Information, Broadcasting and Communication Committee on the twenty second, all applicants who were deducted for his or her school violence history amongst applicants for the 2026 school yr were rejected.

In the case of KAIST, 12 applicants were deducted for school violence amongst applicants for the 2026 school yr, all of whom were rejected. At GIST (Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology) and UNIST (Ulsan Institute of Science and Technology), two applicants and one applicant were eliminated from the occasional screening because of school violence deductions.

DGIST (Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology) restricts check takers who’ve obtained school violence measures No. 4 (neighborhood service) to No. 9 (withdrawal from school).

Representative Hwang stated, “The school violence that leaves scars on victims for life should not be regarded as a deviation from the immature days,” including, “The reduction of school violence in college is not punishment or stigma, but the most necessary education for school violence perpetrators in that they must take responsibility for their wrong actions.”
