# Senate Majority PAC Launches Ad Campaign in Mississippi

A new ad campaign by Senate Majority PAC aims to boost prosecutor Scott Colom as a Democrat who can bring change to Washington, targeting incumbent GOP senator Cindy Hyde-Smith.

The Senate map is expanding once again as Democrats make a push into traditionally Republican states in their bid to regain control of the upper chamber.

Senate Majority PAC has launched a new ad campaign in Mississippi, where Democrats are hoping to capitalize on discontent with the current GOP senator, Cindy Hyde-Smith. The 2 million dollar effort will run through November 3 and focuses on boosting prosecutor Scott Colom as a Democrat who can bring much-needed change to Washington.

Colom's candidacy is being seen as a key factor in the Democratic push into Mississippi, with his campaign gaining momentum in recent weeks. Senate Majority PAC has taken notice of this trend, with spokesperson Lauren French noting that Colom's competitiveness has put Hyde-Smith on her heels.

The ad campaign will feature a 30-second spot highlighting Colom's commitment to fighting corruption and holding elected officials accountable. At the same time, it will portray Hyde-Smith as ineffective and out of touch with the needs of Mississippi voters.

As part of its effort, Senate Majority PAC will be advertising on both TV and digital platforms in the state, reaching a wide audience and reinforcing the message that Colom is the best choice for Democrats.

The Democratic Party's efforts to flip Senate seats have led them to shift their focus towards deep-red states where President Donald Trump's popularity is waning.

To win control of the Senate, Democrats need a net gain of four seats, which means they must successfully contest multiple states that Trump carried comfortably in 2024.

Mississippi stands out as one of these key battlegrounds - despite being a state with a long history of Republican dominance, Trump's margin of victory there was particularly significant, at 23 points two years ago.

A Senate seat has not been won by a Democrat in Mississippi since 1982, making the current climate ripe for change.

The secretary of state's office has gained significant attention in recent years due to unfounded claims of election fraud from President Donald Trump and his associates. This increased scrutiny has transformed what was once a relatively low-profile position into a highly visible one.

In the 2022 midterm elections, Democrats invested heavily in secretary of state races across the country, spending more than $71 million on campaign ads. In contrast, Republicans spent nearly $15 million on these same races, according to data from AdImpact. This disparity reflects the growing importance of these offices in shaping public perceptions of election integrity.

The spotlight is now focused on swing states that are likely to play a crucial role in the 2028 presidential election. Arizona and Nevada feature Democratic incumbents facing far-right Republican challengers who have promoted baseless claims about election manipulation.

In some battleground states, Republican candidates running for top election positions are facing a delicate challenge: they must balance their appeal to supporters of former President Trump, who believe in widespread election fraud, without alienating independent voters.

This dynamic is particularly pronounced in states where Democratic incumbents are facing far-right challengers who have promoted baseless claims about election manipulation. Former Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson noted that in these cases, candidates often feel pressure to fully embrace the narrative of election denialism to win over Trump's most ardent supporters.
