# Russian Drone Strikes Emergency Responders in Southern Ukraine

A Russian drone struck rescue teams on Sunday at a former school that was serving as a shelter for residents waiting for humanitarian aid to arrive in southern Ukraine.

A devastating attack on emergency responders has been reported in southern Ukraine, where a Russian drone struck rescue teams on Sunday.

The strike occurred at a former school that had been previously targeted by multiple Russian guided bombs, and was still serving as a shelter for residents waiting for humanitarian aid to arrive. According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, no one was injured in the attack, but specialized rescue equipment was damaged. The location is near the front line in the Zaporizhzhia region.

Ukraine's authorities confirmed that at least 55 people were killed in a separate attack on Monday in the village of Komyshuvakha, also located in the same region. Many bodies have not been identified yet, and DNA analysis is currently underway to help identify the victims. The military intelligence agency, HUR, has listed around 50 people as missing.

The attacks have left many residents and families reeling, including village resident Mykola Krasnov, who is still searching for his missing wife. He had heard no word from rescuers about her whereabouts and expressed frustration that she had not been found among the bodies or in a local morgue.

Ukraine's State Emergency Service (HUR) has identified some Russian service members involved in a devastating strike on a former school and underground facility used as shelter by residents in southern Ukraine.

The strike, which occurred using aerial bombs, is believed to be part of a tactic known as a "double tap, where multiple attacks are carried out at the same site in quick succession. This strategy is often employed to target emergency crews responding to initial attacks.

In Zaporizhzhia on Saturday, police officers and relatives gathered for a farewell ceremony honoring six officers killed in Russian strikes on Komyshuvakha. The service was held under rain-soaked skies as families wept beside the coffins of their loved ones.

The victims included four officers who died near the former school, where they had been responding to an initial attack. Their colleagues and superiors praised their bravery and selflessness in risking their lives to save others, including children.

The devastating impact of the Russian strike in southern Ukraine was felt deeply by community leaders and residents who lost loved ones in the attack.

Yurii Karapetian's words reflected the anguish he felt after losing his wife, Natalia, who had chosen to stay in Komyshuvakha to help elderly neighbors. She was distributing bread to those in the shelter when the Russian bombs struck, putting her own life at risk.

Karapetian urged the international community to take action against Russia's aggression, warning that if left unchecked, it would not stop at Ukraine's borders. He emphasized the need for collective responsibility in stopping Russia's relentless assault on civilians and emergency responders.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack as an act of absolute cynicism and brutality", highlighting the dire situation faced by Ukraine's residents due to ongoing energy infrastructure strikes. Overnight Russian attacks had left over 600,000 people without power in Dnipropetrovsk region.

Zelenskyy also shared details on Russia's recent military activities, stating that in just one week, they launched 115 missiles, 1,900 guided aerial bombs, and more than 3,000 drones against Ukraine. He called for stronger international sanctions, specifically urging the European Union to impose a robust 22nd package of sanctions against Russia.

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, Europe's largest, has lost its external power supply due to a damaged power line that was disconnected for safety reasons.

According to plant management, backup diesel generators have taken over to keep essential cooling systems running. This is not the first time the plant has experienced an external power outage since being captured by Russia early in the conflict; previous outages have raised concerns about potential nuclear accidents during prolonged disruptions.

The situation highlights ongoing tensions surrounding the plant's operations, with both Moscow and Kyiv blaming each other for strikes that damaged nearby power lines.
