# Pregnancy at 39 leaves mother feeling exhausted and thrilled

A surprise pregnancy at 39 has left a woman feeling both thrilled and exhausted as she prepares for her third child, with severe fatigue, nausea, and acid reflux making everyday tasks more challenging.

A surprise pregnancy at 39 has left me feeling both thrilled and exhausted as I prepare for my third child.

My milestone 40th birthday is just two months away, but it seems fate has other plans - our new baby boy is due to arrive in April, coinciding with this significant life event.

The discovery of the pregnancy was a shock, especially after several miscarriages had left me wondering if I would ever carry another child to term. However, a missed period and some cramping prompted my husband to buy a test, which revealed two lines - a surprise that turned out to be just one baby after all.

This pregnancy has been very different from the others, with symptoms kicking in much earlier. At five months pregnant, I'm already experiencing severe fatigue, nausea, and acid reflux, making everyday tasks more challenging than usual.

My belly has also grown faster this time around, making it harder to stand up, bend over, or even move quickly - a frustrating reality of pregnancy that's taking its toll on me.

Every day, a catchy tune from an old TV show plays in my head - "And that's Uncle Joe, he's a moving kinda slow". It's a fitting description of my current pace, as I'm moving very slowly at all times.

To give you an idea of just how sluggish I am, consider this: after tucking my sons into bed each night, I usually collapse in mine by 8:30 or 9. My body is doing a lot of growing during pregnancy, and it's exhausting.

This pregnancy has been different from the others - there was no "fun period for me. Instead, I went straight from constant nausea to feeling uncomfortable. This shift may be due to the fact that this is an advanced pregnancy, which can be more challenging as women age.

As a petite person with a short torso, every extra pound I gain during pregnancy puts additional strain on my body. Despite having only gained 15 pounds so far, I'm already starting to feel its effects. My doctor noted that women aged 35-39 fall into a gray area" when it comes to the advanced maternal age protocol.

My insurance has also presented an issue - they've opted not to cover the recommended prenatal blood tests due to my heritage. This decision is based on guidelines for chromosomal and gene variant testing after the age of 35, but I'm still waiting to see how this will impact my care.

As I navigate this third pregnancy at 39, one of my biggest concerns is the medical expenses that come with it. Thankfully, our family's income falls within the guidelines for significant discounts on these costs, which was a huge relief.

The prenatal tests were conducted and all results came back normal, bringing immense comfort to both me and my partner. Given the increased risk of complications in pregnancies at this age, we're grateful that everything seems to be proceeding smoothly so far.

As I approach 32 weeks, my doctor visits will soon increase from once a month to once a week for more frequent fetal monitoring and blood pressure checks. This is the only notable change in medical care compared to my previous pregnancies, where I had an otherwise uneventful experience.

I'm relieved that this pregnancy has been relatively stress-free so far, but I know that could change at any moment. With careful management and regular check-ups, we're hoping for a healthy outcome and a smooth delivery process.
