Daunte Wright’s older brother Damik Bryant informed NCS he believes Wright didn’t know there was a warrant for his arrest.
Wright died following an encounter with Brooklyn Center police at a traffic stop Sunday afternoon.
Moments earlier than the traffic stop, Bryant mentioned Wright was heading to Bryant’s new dwelling for a go to. Bryant mentioned he had texted Wright asking him what was taking so lengthy, and Wright mentioned he had been at a automobile wash.

“They asked him to step out the car and you know his first instinct was, ‘what did I do, what’s wrong?’ And they were like ‘well, put the phone down, get out the car now we’ll talk to you about it when you get out.’ So, he gets out the car, and you know he’s, there’s a bunch of police already, you know, so they ask him to put his hands behind his back, and then he tries to get back in the car to leave and they fired,” Bryant mentioned.
While police haven’t defined why they performed the preliminary traffic stop, his mom informed NCS affiliate WCCO that Wright informed her “they pulled him over because had air fresheners hanging from the rearview mirror.”
Wright’s girlfriend was driving within the automobile with him, Bryant informed NCS.
“His girlfriend called my mom on FaceTime and said that they shot Daunte and mom was like, ‘let me see him’ and he was slumped over,” Bryant mentioned wiping away tears. “We don’t even actually know why. We know what occurred and we don’t know why.”
