President Donald Trump signed a funding package deal Wednesday to reopen the federal authorities, ending the longest shutdown in US history.

The closing approval got here hours after a deal was struck between Republicans and centrist Senate Democrats. It ends a 43-day stalemate in Congress and can reverse the mass federal layoffs carried out by Trump through the shutdown.

The deal ensures an early December vote within the Senate on the expiring Obamacare subsidies that Democrats made the main focus of their calls for through the shutdown battle. But a vote to increase the subsidies is unlikely to succeed, a probability that’s pushed intense blowback throughout the Democratic Party.

Here are among the tales that made headlines over the previous week, in addition to some pictures that caught our eye.
