The program goals to domesticate worldwide mindsets and construct cross-cultural networks amongst future seafarers from Japan and the Philippines. Students keep in one another’s international locations for roughly one week, partaking in classroom lectures, sensible coaching, and sightseeing to expertise language and cultural variations firsthand. Launched in 2015, this marks the seventh iteration of the program.

Program Overview

  • Students from Kobe University, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, and Nagasaki University studied at NTMA from August 17 to 24.
  • Students from Toyama, Hiroshima, Yuge, and Oshima schools of the National Institute of Technology studied at NTMA from August 24 to 31.
  • NTMA college students are scheduled to go to Yuge National College of the National Institute of Technology, the NYK head workplace, and numerous NYK Group corporations from October 26 to November 1.

The program featured a variety of hands-on actions, together with workouts utilizing Japanese coastal charts to find out positions, welding apply with NTMA gear, engine simulator coaching to function pumps and different equipment by way of PC, a tour of the adjoining NYK-Fil Maritime E-Training Inc. (NETI) coaching facility,** and a sightseeing tour of Tagaytay City — famend as a summer time resort in a lush highland space. Additionally, NTMA college students offered brief tales in Japanese, whereas their Japanese counterparts did so in English, throughout a “kobanashi” present designed to humorously introduce one another’s cultures and deepen mutual trade.
