# NFL Players Found to Have High Rate of CTE

A new study has found that 362 out of 387 former NFL players who passed away between 2008 and 2023 had some form of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).

A new study has shed light on the alarming prevalence of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) among deceased NFL players. According to the research, a staggering 362 out of 387 former players who passed away between 2008 and 2023 had some form of CTE.

The findings underscore the devastating consequences of repeated head trauma in football, as CTE is a degenerative brain disease that can only be definitively diagnosed after death. This study builds on previous research, which estimated that anywhere from 25% to 98% of ex-NFL players who died between 2016 and 2021 had CTE.

The findings of this study have sparked a renewed call for improved player safety measures in the NFL. Former NFL quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, an ambassador for the research, underscored the significance of understanding the long-term health consequences faced by those who helped shape the game.

The introduction of enhanced protective gear and rule changes aimed at reducing injuries are seen as potential solutions to mitigate the risks associated with playing football. The NFL has reaffirmed its commitment to providing comprehensive support services for players' physical and mental wellbeing, while the NFL Players Association views this study as a vital component in understanding the lasting health impacts of professional football.

The NFL Players Association has reiterated its commitment to supporting scientific research and providing resources for players' physical and mental well-being. This stance comes as a study sheds light on the alarming prevalence of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) among former NFL players.

The union's efforts aim to improve health outcomes for current and retired players, ensuring they have access to necessary care during and after their playing careers. By investing in research and resources, the NFLPA seeks to better understand and address the long-term effects of head trauma on athletes.
