# Miami Escapes Florida State in Double Overtime

A disputed call on fourth down in double overtime led to Miami's 43-35 win over Florida State.

A dramatic finish capped off an equally thrilling game as Miami narrowly escaped Florida State with a 43-35 win in double overtime. The intense rivalry between the two teams was on full display, but it was a disputed call that will dominate conversation for years to come.

The game had been a back-and-forth affair up until that point, with Miami taking an eight-point lead at the start of the second overtime period. However, the final sequence was anything but straightforward. On fourth down, Florida State quarterback Ashton Daniels launched a deep pass into the end zone, where Seminoles receiver Micahi Danzy came down with it in a scramble among several Miami defenders.

The play was initially celebrated by the Seminoles as a miraculous touchdown, but their jubilation was short-lived. As the officials reviewed the play, they noticed that Florida State's Xavier Chaplin had been called for holding on one of the Miami pass-rushers. The penalty negated what would have been an incredible comeback.

The call was a tight one, with some arguing that Chaplin may have gotten outside the defender's shoulder pads slightly before being caught up in the scrum. However, the officials ultimately ruled it a hold, leaving Florida State facing fourth-and-31 on their next play from scrimmage.

The drama continued as Miami's Daniels rolled out to his right and launched a Hail Mary pass into the air, giving the opposing team one last chance at glory.

Duce Robinson leapt up above the pack and managed to get his fingertips on the ball, but Miami defensive back Bryce Fitzgerald was also in position, grabbing for the same catch. The two players went down to the ground together, making it difficult to determine who had possession of the ball.

The officials ruled that the play resulted in an interception, a decision that was upheld after review. According to ESPN rules analyst Steve Shaw, there was sufficient evidence to support this call.

Florida State coach Norvell disagreed with the officials' assessment, arguing that Robinson and Fitzgerald simultaneously touched the ball, which would have constituted a catch for his team.

The officiating crew in charge of the game was under scrutiny after their decisions had a significant impact on the final outcome.

Norvell expressed his dissatisfaction with one particular call, stating that it was questionable and pointing out that the same officiating crew was involved in last year's game between the two teams. He suggested that they review the footage from that play to see what really happened. The issue at hand was a holding penalty called on Chaplin.

The Seminoles attempted an onside kick as time was running out, but it was recovered by Miami, ultimately sealing their victory. This move was seen as a bold attempt to keep the game alive and prevent it from going into overtime once again.

In the end, despite some disputed calls and controversy surrounding the officiating crew, Miami emerged victorious in this intense double-OT match-up.
