Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Vice-Chancellor S. Vidyashankar on Friday mentioned that the college will quickly launch a Research Promotion Scheme to encourage its college members to deal with product-oriented research.

Mr. Vidyashankar was talking after inaugurating an International Conference on Communication, Computer, and Information Technology (IC3IT-2025) on the Mysuru Royal Institute of Technology (MRIT) in Srirangapatna. The convention was co-sponsored by the IEEE Bengaluru chapter and IEEE Mysuru.

The Vice-Chancellor mentioned that India was among the many largest producers of engineers, and the nation’s expertise was making immense contribution throughout the globe. “But when it comes to research, it is confined to just publishing papers and efforts should be made to translate or convert research into products that improve lives, especially of the poor,” he added.

The problem, Mr. Vidyashankar mentioned, lies in guaranteeing research outcomes attain the grassroot.

“Today, much of our research remains confined to journals. The real question every researcher must ask is — what is the societal impact of my work?”, the Vice-Chancellor added.

Mr. Vidyashankar referred to the development within the area of communication expertise and mentioned that regardless of such advances, distant components of India nonetheless battle with fundamental web entry.

“During the pandemic, students had to climb trees to get internet access and attend online classes. We must innovate technologies that can bridge such gaps,” he mentioned.

In all, 180 technical papers had been introduced in the course of the day-long convention. The accepted papers will be printed within the IEEE Xplore Digital Library, offering international visibility to the authors and their affiliated establishments, in line with the organisers.

The convention is aimed toward fostering collaboration between academia, research, and trade and IC3IT-2025 served as a platform for academicians, research students, and professionals to change progressive concepts and focus on the most recent developments in communication, Computer Science, and Information Technology.
