# Justice Democrats Appoints Rev. Hodari Williams as Executive Director

Rev. Hodari Williams has been appointed executive director of Justice Democrats, a move that signals the organization's focus on civil rights issues ahead of the 2028 election cycle.

Justice Democrats has appointed Rev. Hodari Williams as its new executive director, setting the stage for the organization to focus on civil rights issues ahead of the 2028 election cycle.

Williams' appointment comes at a time when progressive and socialist candidates are gaining momentum in various parts of the country. The PAC has had significant success in recent elections, with seven of their endorsed candidates defeating incumbents in primary races. These victories include wins by Donavan McKinney in Michigan, Melat Kiros in Colorado, and Darializa Avila Chevalier in New York.

The group's success has been notable, but the outcome is far from certain for three other Justice Democrats candidates, including state Rep. Justin Pearson of Tennessee. While these candidates are favored to win on Election Day, their prospects remain uncertain going into November. Williams' appointment signals a shift in focus for the organization, which may be preparing for new challenges ahead.

Williams himself has a background that could inform the PAC's civil rights message. At one point, Justice Democrats attempted to recruit him as a candidate, but he declined. However, Williams now believes that the time is right for change, and he is poised to take on a key role in shaping the organization's strategy and messaging going forward.

Born and raised in Lakewood, New Jersey, 46-year-old executive director candidate has a strong background in activism and community organizing. His parents were influential figures who instilled in him the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement from an early age. This upbringing laid the foundation for his future work in social justice causes.

After completing his undergraduate degree at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina, he joined the NAACP as a field organizer for voter rights and empowerment while pursuing his Master's of Divinity. His time with the organization took him across the Black Belt region, where he witnessed firsthand the effects of poverty and inequality on local communities.

During this period, Williams emphasized that civil rights and progressivism are intertwined movements that cannot be separated. He drew from his experiences working in racial justice circles to shape his approach to social change. In Kenya, he worked as a program coordinator for the Presbyterian Church USA, supporting environmental initiatives such as the Green Belt Movement's efforts against deforestation.

As some Black and brown voters express concerns about being tokenized by traditional Democratic candidates, Williams plans to leverage his experience in racial justice circles to inform his new role.

As Justice Democrats' new executive director, Williams has a deep understanding of the challenges faced by Black and brown communities, which he has witnessed firsthand while working in these areas.

He has seen how environmental hazards and data centers are often dumped in predominantly Black neighborhoods, contributing to rising unemployment rates and targeting of Black federal employees. This is a stark reminder of the systemic injustices that need to be addressed.

In his previous role, Williams worked closely with communities affected by these issues, listening to their concerns and offering support as they navigated difficult times. He has also had to confront some uncomfortable truths about the leadership within the Black community, including how many politicians have been co-opted by corporate interests.

Williams is aware that building a lasting coalition will require convincing the mainstream Democratic Party that Justice Democrats' approach is effective in energizing the base around key issues like kitchen table concerns.

Justice Democrats have outlined their vision for America's future, one that centers on key issues such as affordability, healthcare, civil rights, housing, and livable wages. This aspirational goal is distinct from merely defeating a president they view as fascist.

Williams will take the reins as executive director from Alexandra Rojas, who steps into the role of board president while also providing guidance to Williams as senior adviser.
