According to the Fed's Survey of Consumer Finances, families led by someone in this age group also experienced substantial gains in income and wealth over the past few years. Their median annual income rose by 24% since 2022, reaching $67,000.

The Federal Reserve's data suggests that many Americans have seen a significant increase in their wealth over the past three years, particularly those nearing retirement age who likely benefited from growth in their retirement assets.

Families led by younger individuals under 35 account for nearly one-fifth of households, according to the Fed. In contrast, millions of people are struggling financially, with about one household in twelve devoting a staggering 40% or more of their income towards repaying debt, the highest share seen in at least 12 years.
