The House Oversight Committee has obtained its first transmission of documents from the estate of late convicted intercourse offender Jeffrey Epstein, a lawyer for the estate informed NCS.
The high Democrat on the House Oversight panel, Rep. Robert Garcia, posted that the committee had obtained the financier’s “birthday book” – a reported assortment of letters gifted to Epstein for his fiftieth birthday that included a word bearing President Donald Trump’s identify.
Trump has repeatedly denied writing a letter for Epstein’s so-called birthday e-book and sued The Wall Street Journal, which first reported on it, for defamation.
The panel has been investigating the Epstein case and had subpoenaed the estate for documents as half of its probe. The investigation comes amid a bipartisan push for extra transparency over the case and the discharge of extra info.
“We just sent out the Estate’s first document production to the House Oversight Committee; as agreed with the Committee, the Co-Executors will continue to produce on a rolling basis documents responsive to the Committee’s subpoena,” legal professional Daniel H. Weiner informed NCS.
It was not instantly clear what new info the documents contained nor when the committee would make the data public.
As NCS previously reported, a bipartisan group of staffers on the committee is anticipated to journey to New York City later this week to fulfill with attorneys representing the estate and consider unredacted documents associated to the investigation.
The committee beforehand launched tens of hundreds of pages of documents of Epstein recordsdata turned over to the panel by the Justice Department. Democrats on the panel criticized that doc manufacturing, nevertheless, saying that it contained little new info.
