# Haley Stevens Endorses Andy Levin's Opponent in Heated Congressional Primary

Michigan Rep. Haley Stevens has publicly endorsed Abdul El-Sayed over Andy Levin in the Democratic primary, despite previously telling colleague Debbie Dingell she would not support El-Sayed.

A rift within the Michigan Democratic Party has come under scrutiny after Rep. Haley Stevens publicly announced her endorsement of Andy Levin's opponent in a heated congressional primary. During an interview, Stevens was repeatedly questioned about her change of heart, as she had reportedly told colleague Debbie Dingell that she would not be endorsing the candidate.

Stevens confirmed that she did have a conversation with Dingell on Saturday night, but refused to provide a direct answer as to what led her to reverse her decision. When pressed for an explanation, Stevens stated that she was simply "where I landed after some introspection and writing. She emphasized her commitment to the Democratic Party, saying she is a proud Democrat who wants Democrats to win.

Stevens also acknowledged that Abdul El-Sayed, Levin's opponent, has gained support from many other Democrats, but stopped short of providing further insight into what drove her decision to endorse him.

Stevens emphasized that her endorsement decision was not influenced by any personal changes or developments. However, she did mention a specific factor that contributed to her shift in support: El-Sayed's alliance with left-wing streamer and commentator Hasan Piker.

This strategic partnership has raised eyebrows among some Democrats, who may view it as too divisive for the party's interests. Moreover, Stevens pointed out a contentious ad from Rebellion PAC that drew a connection between the war in Gaza and rising costs at home in Michigan. The ad features a couple shopping for groceries, with the woman instructing her husband to put eggs back on the shelf.

Stevens described the ad as very painful, indicating its impact on her decision-making process. El-Sayed's campaign has denied any involvement in producing or endorsing the ad, which may have contributed to Stevens' concerns about his association with such a polarizing message.

The discussion between Cooper and Stevens highlighted the complexity of the situation unfolding in Michigan's Democratic Party. In August, Stevens had expressed concerns on social media about Rogers being another rubber stamp for Donald Trump's dangerous agenda."

Stevens' comments were met with pushback from some quarters, who felt that she was unfairly criticizing a fellow Democrat. The tension came to a head when Dingell stated his concern that the situation had become a distraction.
