# Google Unveils Fitbit Edge Fitness Tracker

The new tracker offers a balance of cost and features, priced at $180 and compatible with both Android and iPhones.

Google has unveiled a new fitness tracker called Fitbit Edge, which is poised to meet the demands of users who crave a screen on their wearable device.

The Fitbit Edge offers an impressive balance between cost and features, priced at $180 - a more affordable option compared to Google's Pixel Watch, yet delivering a similar experience in a sleeker design.

One of the standout features of this new tracker is its compatibility with both Android and iPhones through the Google Health app, making it accessible to users across various platforms.

Preorders for the Fitbit Edge are currently available, and it will go on sale on October 27.

The Fitbit Edge boasts a new skin temperature sensor that measures body heat from a distance, unlike other Fitbits which rely on device temperature sensors.

This addition brings some of the Pixel Watch's advanced features to a fitness-focused wearable at a price point more in line with traditional Fitbits.

In terms of features, the Edge combines improvements from the Fitbit Air with several Charge 6 features that were previously absent, such as built-in GPS and electrocardiogram (ECG) capabilities.

These upgrades include electrical sensors for ECG functionality and support for over 50 exercise modes.

The Google Fitbit Edge's feature set has been bolstered by the addition of advanced health tracking capabilities.

These upgrades include the ability to track blood pressure trends without manual calibration, a significant improvement over previous models, and insulin resistance trends without requiring a blood draw, making it easier for users to monitor their condition.

This enhanced functionality is available to users with a Google Health Premium subscription, allowing them to access more detailed health insights.

The Edge's expanded feature set is part of a broader effort by Google to update its Fitbit lineup and bring new capabilities to its wearables.

The seven-day battery life remains unchanged for the Edge, but it still holds an advantage over other devices in this regard.

In contrast to some other smartwatches on the market, the Edge takes about 90 minutes to fully charge, which is half an hour less than the Charge 6 and a notable improvement.

This efficient charging speed allows users to quickly top up their battery without having to worry about lengthy recharging times.

The Fitbit Edge also introduces new clock faces, including both digital and analog options, giving users more flexibility in customizing their device's appearance.

The Fitbit Edge's sibling, the screenless Fitbit Air, is receiving a stylish makeover in the form of a new Metal Mesh band. This premium accessory is designed to make a statement on your wrist, offering an even more dressy look than the existing polyurethane Elevated Modern Band.

While the Fitbit Air was initially intended to be a subtle and discreet device, its new metal mesh strap turns it into a fashion-forward accessory that's sure to turn heads. Meanwhile, those who prefer a display will likely find the Edge to be an attractive option as a more affordable alternative to other smartwatches on the market.

The release of the Fitbit Edge and its accompanying accessories marks another development in Google's ongoing efforts to expand its wearable offerings. As users await our review of this new device, they can expect to see how it stacks up against its competitors in terms of performance and overall value.
