Disruption of Starlink Satellite System Investigated by Congress
A congressional probe has been called for into the disruption of the Starlink satellite communication system in Ukraine, which was used for both communication and controlling drones.

A Republican congressman has called for a congressional probe into the disruption of the Starlink satellite communication system in Ukraine. Last week, Ukrainian officials reported experiencing difficulties with the system, which is used for both communication and controlling drones.
President Trump stated on Friday that he had not limited Ukraine's access to Starlink, also expressing doubt about Elon Musk's involvement. The issue was apparently resolved when Rubio said the Starlink speed had been restored, describing it as a situation where "it sort of happened."
The issue of disrupted Starlink internet services continues to be a concern for Ukraine's defense efforts against Russian drones. According to assessments from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, certain areas in Ukraine are still unable to use their interceptor systems due to the restrictions on Starlink speed.
This situation has raised serious concerns among lawmakers, with Rep. Turner emphasizing that people's lives are at risk as a result of these disruptions. The inability to defend against Russian drones in areas where Starlink services have been compromised is a critical issue that needs to be addressed.
GOP Sen. Kevin Cramer from North Dakota also expressed support for investigating the decision behind the Starlink speed restrictions, questioning whether it was indeed a deliberate choice and calling for a congressional probe into the matter.
A bipartisan group of nine senators has called for an inspector general investigation into the recent slowdown of Starlink internet speeds. The senators, led by a senior Republican, requested the probe last week in a letter to the Pentagon's inspector general.
The letter highlights concerns about the Department of Defense's contractual oversight and responsibility to ensure continuity of essential services, particularly in situations where restrictions are imposed without advance notification.
