The Philippines’ Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has launched the Coastal Engineering and Management Research and Development (R&D) Center (COASTER) on the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU).
In a digital assembly on October 8, DOST introduced the MMSU-based analysis heart as amongst its 10 facilities beneath the Department’s well being and trade, power, and rising expertise sectors.
The COASTER will spearhead the event of applied sciences and innovation to mitigate and handle coastal disasters and dangers within the Philippines.
Dr. Nathaniel Alibuyog, COASTER program chief, stated that the R&D heart consists of 4 sectors:
- coastal erosion traits and administration methods;
- evaluation, monitoring, and prediction of coastal flooding;
- improvement of science-based engineering method to coastal safety;
- enhancing coastal design and infrastructure intervention by the institution of wave testing laboratory.
The COASTER is the second area of interest heart established in MMSU.
