China introduced it has begun mass producing the world’s first ultra-low noise, single-photon detector that includes 4 channels, suggesting that highly effective functions loom in every little thing from each day communications to nationwide defence.

Dubbed the “photon catcher”, the machine can detect a single photon – the smallest unit of power – making it a core element in cutting-edge applied sciences resembling quantum communication and quantum radar for stealth aircraft detection and monitoring.

The feat was achieved by the Quantum Information Engineering Technology Research Centre in Anhui province and reported final Friday by Science and Technology Daily, a publication of China’s Ministry of Science and Technology.
